Circus Skills for People with Disabilities is a Class that has been shaped from our previous Autism Friendly and Limited Movement classes to create a welcoming class that teaches students with disabilities as well as additional needs to develop key skills and more importantly have FUN.
Why CSPD? – We regularly ask for feedback on all our sessions and had interesting feedback from our ‘Autism Friendly’ class. We know we want to be inclusive for all of our community to join, so thought of possibilities of changing the name for this class as Autism friendly classes may not be welcoming for people that don’t fall under the autism spectrum but do have additional needs. This got us thinking of how we could become more open to our inclusiveness in a way parents and carers would understand that we are happy to accommodate more than just people on the autism spectrum with diagnosis but any additional need and/or disability.
We will no longer run Autism friendly or Limited movement these students now make up the start of our CSPD sessions. DZ Circus School will also be adding an additional 2 CSPD classes starting in January 2019 at Primrose Hill Community Centre. All CSPD classes have a limit of 6 students with each student bringing along a parent or carer who can support and be as involved or reserved as they wish. In an aim to keep up with demand the 2 new sessions will be loosely split into under 7yr and over 8yr and will also be inclusive for siblings of all abilities, please note a place must be booked for siblings as well to keep our classes the correct size.
Circus Skills for People with Disabilities is more about each individual and we hope to introduce a set of awards to highlight the individual progress of students these will include
– Confidence Builder
– Enhancing Communication
– Working as Part of a Team
– Creative Thinking
– Friendship Maker
– Consistent Concentration
these are all key skills we feel all our students will be able to work on while learning circus skills with us. Getting recognition through these awards will give students a positive encouragement and focus for their classes.
